Manchester City will look to extend their unbeaten start to the season when Brighton travel to the Etihad on Saturday.

The Citizens are already playing catch up on Premier League leaders Liverpool and can’t afford to drop any further points at this early stage of the campaign.

They have won both away games at West Ham and Bournemouth but they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham.

City’s impressive home record suggests a win is likely to be on the cards, having lost just one of their last 23 in the league at the Etihad – winning 20 of those outings.

Pep Guardiola looks set to be boosted by the return of central defender John Stones but it’s not clear if he will earn a place in the starting XI.

Stones started the season-opener at West Ham but has missed the last two games with a thigh injury.

Sergio Aguero looks set to hold on to his starting berth as fellow striker Gabriel Jesus remains on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

Winger Leroy Sane and left-back Benjamin Mendy are long-term absentees for the Premier League champions.

Brighton have made a positive start to life under new boss Graham Potter but Saturday’s game is undoubtedly their biggest test of the season so far.

Away form was a major issue last season and Potter is likely to switch up his formation to try and keep City at bay for as long as possible.

Potter made 11 changes for the midweek Carabao Cup win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday in order to give his fringe players some much-needed gametime.

He is expected to revert back to a more familiar-looking XI for the trip to the Etihad as they look to cause an upset.

The Seagulls will be without striker Florin Andone after he was shown a straight red card in the loss to Southampton last weekend.

Brighton have no new injury concerns but are unable to call on Yves Bissouma, Jose Izquierdo and Ezequiel Schelotto through injury.

City have won their last five matches against Brighton across all competitions, including a crucial 4-1 victory at the Amex on the final day of last season to wrap up the Premier League title.

Brighton are without an away league win against City in nine attempts and have come away on the losing side on the last five occasions.
