City star faces new contract wages woe

Manchester City

Brazil international midfielder Fernandinho could be forced to take a pay cut before securing a new two-year deal at Manchester City.

The 31-year-old is the only player the Citizens have opened an early dialogue with over a possible extension.

Several members of Pep Guardiola’s squad are currently in the final year of their contract.

The City boss has already stated he would like Fernandinho to stay put at the Etihad Stadium.

The samba ace arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk for £30m back in 2014 and earns a reported £120,000 a week.

Sources have told SiaS, though, the player cannot expect to pick up similar wages at this stage in his career.

It’s understood Fernandinho is desperate to remain in Manchester and people close to the situation don’t envisage any type of real stand-off.

City have attempted to move away from huge basic salaries in the last couple of years, and their older stars must now be more realistic in their demands.
