Jesus set to European spot

Manchester City

Gabriel Jesus is set to be named ahead of Yaya Toure when Pep Guardiola tweaks his Champions League squad in January.

The Brazil striker finally arrives later this month following his £27m summer capture from Palmeiras.

And it is understood the 19-year-old forward will get the nod to be included in the Citizens’ revised European list.

Guardiola must free up some space in his star-studded ranks, with teams limited to 17 foreign spots.

Nigerian starlet Kelechi Iheanacho will qualify as an under-21 List B player from January, which will create the opening for Jesus.

Toure, however, still faces an anxious wait to discover if Guardiola will cull an existing player to accommodate him.

The 33-year-old has made it clear he still thinks he can offer something useful to City in Europe’s biggest competition.

He has scored twice in three games since Guardiola ended his three-month exile for comments made by his controversial agent Dimitri Seluk.
