The Belgium international has missed the last two months of the season through injury but is now finally close to a return and should be back for the run-in.
However, City’s title bid looks all but over as they trail local rivals Manchester United by 15 points with just nine games remaining and Kompany says they must learn from their mistakes of this season.
“You always want to go for the titles and you always want to go for the top,” he told Sky Sports.
“We still have a good run in the FA Cup, but ultimately in football you have to have a winner and a loser, so I think we will learn from what happened there and we’ll grow stronger again.”
Kompany will at least hope to help city regain the FA Cup, which they won in 2011, as Roberto Mancini’s side will take on either United or Chelsea in the semi-finals.
