Italians rule out star summer exit

Manchester United

Inter Milan appear to have now ruled out the possibility of Wesley Sneijder leaving the club for Manchester United this summer.

The Red Devils have been linked with a swoop for the Dutch international since the end of last season when it was announced that Paul Scholes was retiring from playing.

And, while the saga has rumbled on with claims of contact and informal negotiations between all parties involved, United virtually ended their interest last week due to Sneijder’s excessive wages. And boss Sir Alex Ferguson then revealed that he was now focused on bringing through his youngsters at Old Trafford.

Sneijder has since reportedly suggested that he would lower his demands to push through a move, but Inter president Massimo Moratti reacted by insisting he is going nowhere this summer in light of Samuel Eto’o’s potential departure.

“Sneijder away? For Wes there has never been any sort of negotiation,” Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If Eto’o leaves, he remains. Sneijder was untouchable even before this hypothesis, now it is even more so.

“Sneijder will remain.”
