Key duo in line to start final

Manchester United

Chris Smalling and Juan Mata are being tipped to start for Manchester United in Wednesday's Europa League final against Ajax.

Phil Jones looks set to be the odd man out at the back as Jose Mourinho recalls Daley Blind to the centre alongside Smalling, with Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia deployed as the full backs.

Paul Pogba will keep his place in midfield alongside Ander Herrera, with Marouane Fellaini expected to shake off an injury niggle to take a spot in a three-man midfield in Stockholm.

Mata, who has been building up his own fitness since returning from a groin operation, could get the nod over Jesse Lingard in the wide areas.

Lingard has been a favourite of Mourinho’s in the past month, however, and may yet squeeze into the line-up – particularly if the boss feels Henrikh Mkhitaryan has lost his form.

Marcus Rashford will lead the line again, with Anthony Martial likely to remain on the bench, despite an improvement in his recent displays.

Sergio Romero returns in goal for Joel Pereira, who made his debut against Crystal Palace, with David de Gea taking the keeper’s spot on the bench.
