Norwich City goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann didn't expect to be warming the bench this season, according to his agent Stefan Backs.

Norwich brought in shot-stopper Fahrmann from Schalke this summer on a season-long loan, one of seven new players manager Daniel Farke added to his squad following last season’s Championship-winning campaign.

Sam Byram, Daniel Adshead, Josip Drmic, Patrick Roberts, Rocky Bushiri and Ibrahim Amadou also arrived at Carrow Road as reinforcements, providing extra competition for places upon the club’s Premier League return.

Although gaining plaudits for their attacking style of football, the Canaries have lost three of their opening four league matches and they sit 19th in the standings, having only defeated Newcastle United.

Finland international Teemu Pukki has adapted to life in the top flight quickly, bagging five goals to sit joint-second in the league’s scoring charts, and it looks like he will be integral if the club are going to avoid relegation.

However, one player that is still waiting to make his Premier League bow is German keeper Fahrmann, who has been restricted to just one EFL Cup appearance that ended in defeat at Crawley.

Netherlands international Tim Krul has retained his number one jersey and although losing three games, the former Newcastle United star has received plaudits for his performances.

Fahrmann’s agent has now revealed his client wasn’t expecting to be back-up after making the switch to England and as things stand, he will be heading back to Schalke when the loan ends.

“He likes it very much in England. Both the club and the football that is played here fascinate him,” he told Fussball Transfers. “He did not know before that he wouldn’t play, but the coach didn’t give him any operational guarantee.

“Ralf will be going back to Schalke as things look.”

Norwich return to action on Saturday when they welcome defending Premier League champions Manchester City, who thrashed Brighton 4-0 before the international break, to Carrow Road.

The last meeting between these two sides ended in a 0-0 draw back in March 2016.
