Farke expecting more Pukki goals soon

Norwich City
Not many people would have predicted Teemu Pukki would win the first Premier League Player of the Month of the season, but he is not the first surprise winner.

Daniel Farke says he has no doubts key striker Teemu Pukki will be back amongst the goals for Norwich City soon.

Pukki enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and won the August Player of the Month award in the Premier League following goals in the early weeks against Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle, hitting a memorable hat-trick against the Magpies.

The Finland international was then also on target against Manchester City last month in the shock 3-2 win over the champions but he has drawn a blank in the two games since.

However, speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa, Farke has backed the 29-year-old to be celebrating again soon.

“Strikers can’t score a hat-trick in every game. I’ve been pleased with Teemu’s recent performances,” Farke said. “It is just a question of time until he scores again. It is not a big crisis.”

Saturday’s game sees the Canaries take on Villa after both sides came up from the Championship last term and the German is wary of the Midlanders, who spent over £100million in the summer to improve their squad.

Their boss Dean Smith has warned Farke it is a very different Villa side that they will face and the German knows it will require another determined team effort to pick up what could be a crucial result in their own battle to retain Premier League status.

“We won both games (in the Championship) last season, but Dean Smith is totally right – we haven’t played ‘this’ Villa side yet,” he added.

“They spent an unbelievable amount of money in the summer and have many changes. You can’t compare Villa with the other promoted teams. The potential of the club is to be a giant one day in England and Europe.”

Norwich are 17th, a place and a point above Villa in the table before this weekend’s action.
