Southampton sign Djenepo from Standard Liege
Southampton have completed a deal to sign young winger Moussa Djenepo from Standard Liege, subject to clearance.
The 20-year-old Mali international, who is set to be Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first signing of the summer, has penned a four-year contract with the St Mary’s club.
He enjoyed an excellent season in the Belgian league last year, scoring 11 times and assisting them to a third-place finish and subsequent Europa League qualification.
He will join up with his new team-mates after the African Cup of Nations, where he could potentially be representing his country until mid July.
Hasenhuttl, who is preparing to start his first full season in charge of the Saints, says he is looking forward to working with Djenepo.
‘We are very happy to welcome Moussa as the first new player to join our team ahead of the upcoming season,’ he said.
‘He is an exciting player, with tremendous pace and good finishing abilities, who we have watched closely for some time.
‘We have been impressed with how he has adapted to football in Europe and the impact he has had in many games, and we had an interest in him as recently as January, so I am pleased we are able to bring him into the club.’
