Austin enjoying himself at Southampton

Southampton striker Charlie Austin says he is happy with his recent form after he rescued a point for the club against Bournemouth.

The former Burnley man endured a slow start to the campaign after a number of fitness woes, with boss Mauricio Pellegrino going with other options.

The likes of Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long are now behind him in the pecking order after Austin scored his third goal in three matches.

His strike helped the Saints secure a point during Sunday’s derby game with Bournemouth and the 28-year-old is enjoying himself at the moment.

He told the Daily Echo: “I’m delighted and more importantly putting in big performances for the team and scoring the goals. Like I say, I’ve always had the belief and confidence in myself I will score goals. And going forward we’ve got a big period coming up. We know Christmas time is big.

“I feel good. I’ve got more momentum, more game time and I’m helping the team.

“As a striker you want to play, you want to keep scoring goals, putting in performances for the team and luckily I’m doing that at the moment.”
