Barca misfit on Saints radar

Southampton have been linked with a move for forward Paco Alcacer, who has been told he can leave Barcelona in January.

Alcacer moved to Camp Nou in a 30million euros deal from Valencia in the summer of 2016, but has been unable to establish himself as a Barca regular, making just seven La Liga starts since joining the Catalan giants.

Spain’s Diario Sport have revealed that Barcelona have informed the 24-year-old he can leave in January and Southampton have been mooted as potential suitors, having been keen to sign Alcacer during the summer.

Mauricio Pellegrino is likely to face stiff competition for his services should they opt to make a move in the winter window, with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace one of several clubs also been credited with an interest.

Alcacer, who’s last La Liga goal came back in April, will hope a move and regular first-team football will give him a chance of making the Spanish squad for next summer’s World Cup finals.
