Saints target helping Hand

Southampton have been linked with a move for highly-rated Chesterfield youngster Dylan Hand.

The young defender only joined Chesterfield from Irish club Dundalk last year and he is yet to make a senior first-team appearance in English football, although he has been impressing in the League Two club’s various youth teams.

Indeed the youngster’s recent displays have reportedly alerted the interest of a number of clubs, including Southampton, who have an impressive recent record of nurturing young talent, with the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana all beginning their careers at St Mary’s Stadium.

However, the Saints face competition for Hand’s signature from Premier League rivals Burnley and Championship outfit Nottingham Forest, while Chesterfield are also in no hurry to sell one of their prize talents.

Hand has two years left on his current scholarship deal with Chesterfield and if he were to join Saints then he would be likely to join up with their Under-23 side.
