Swans face rivals for Dundee defender

Swansea are showing an interest in Dundee defender Jack Hendry, but face competition from Crystal Palace and Newcastle.

The 22-year-old is earning rave reviews with his performances north of the border, and his form has not gone unnoticed by the Swans, who have raided the Scottish leagues on a regular basis over the last few years.

Both Stephen Kingsley and Jay Fulton were signed from Falkirk and Botti Biabi was snapped up from the same club before being loaned to Hamilton Accies.

Hendry joined Dundee from Wigan Athletic in the summer, since which he has made 18 appearances for the Dens Park club, scoring one goal in the process.

But Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers could offer him the chance to stay in Scotland, having said he was impressed with the youngster after the champions’ meeting with Dundee in October.

“The boy Hendry at the back I thought was excellent,” said Rodgers. “He’s quick and strong and is a good size. Scotland need centre-halves and that looks like a good kid. He’s tall, he can run and he can pass. He looks a talent.”
