Swans face winger battle

Swansea City

Swansea City boss Paul Clement is closing in on a move for Grimsby Town star Siriki Dembele but faces a battle for his signature.

Clement is planning his January transfer moves and the 21-year-old, who has excelled in his first season for Grimsby, is thought to be on his shopping list.

Mariners boss Russell Slade is keen to keep hold of his prize asset and underlined how highly he rates him during a press conference last month after he had won an EFL young player of the month award.

He said: “Siriki is making great progress with us. It (winning the award) shows you that Grimsby is a platform for good, talented young players that have perhaps missed the boat a little bit earlier in their careers.

“In my opinion, he can certainly go higher. Why? Because he’s got the right attitude. He will work at things and he always wants to improve.”

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is also said to be very keen on the tricky winger and could be set to rival Swansea for his signature, with Grimsby said to be bracing themselves for offers in the new year.
