PSV Eindhoven boss Mark van Bommel says the club do not want to sell Steven Bergwijn to rivals Ajax, giving Tottenham a needed transfer boost.

The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football after another fine campaign in the Eredivisie.

Bergwijn made 33 appearances for PSV last season and netted 14 goals as he helped the club compete for the league title.

They lost out in the end to Ajax and it is their rivals that want to sign Bergwijn for £35million.

Spurs are also in the running to sign him and they have been given a boost in their pursuit after Van Bommel admitted they do not want to sell to a rival.

‘We do not want to sell him to Ajax,’ Van Bommel told Voetbal Primeur.

‘Look, if Ajax comes, and they pay the right price, then he will no doubt leave.

‘ Spurs have not signed anybody since January 2018 but Bergwijn could soon be joined by Leeds United’s Jack Clarke.

The winger will reportedly join the north London club for £8.

5million, with the deal eventually rising to £13million.
