Pochettino expecting further improvement

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has warning for fringe stars.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso can give his side the "spark" they need this season.

After two transfer windows without doing any business, Tottenham signed four new players this summer after they brought in Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon, Giovani Lo Celso and Jack Clarke.

Clarke was allowed to return to Leeds United on a season-long loan deal, while Sessegnon and Lo Celso were late arrivals on deadline day on Thursday.

After spending more than £100million on transfers, Spurs will be hoping to cut the gap between themselves, Liverpool and Manchester City. Spurs also managed to keep hold of Real Madrid target Christian Eriksen – for now at least – and Pochettino believes the new faces will take the club to another level.

“I am very happy (with Tottenham’s summer business),” Pochettino said. “I was happy with my squad and to add some more players, they can bring good energy and help us to achieve what we want.

“Our opponents have always been adding, but now was the time to add some new faces to motivate and spark our players, but also to create excitement for our fans.

“This season will be different, we start in our new stadium and we have to be ready for another exciting season and working hard to try and start tomorrow to win, which is our objective.”

Spurs start the season at home to Aston Villa and they are third favourites to lift the trophy. Punters can back them to go all the way using their free bet and a win over Manchester City in week two would significantly boost their chances of getting their hands on the trophy.
