Son at risk of fatigue – Tae-Yong

Tottenham Hotspur

South Korea head coach Shin Tae-Yong is worried that Tottenham's Son Heung-Min could burn out before the World Cup.

The 25-year-old has been in imperious form for Spurs during the second half of the season and has netted seven times in his last four outings across all competitions.

Son has established himself as a key figure for the north Londoners in 2017-18, making 43 appearances in all competitions, just four less than he made in the entire 2016-17 season.

Tae-Yong will be relying on Son to continue his fine form into the 2018 World Cup, however, he admits he is worried about the superstar suffering from fatigue.

“I hope Son can perform in the World Cup like he currently does for his club,” said Tae-Yong.

“But I’m concerned that Son’s red-hot form could cool down around the World Cup period.

“For most Europe-based players, they are used to getting in shape in August before the new season starts.

“I’m really worried that Son’s form might go down from May, with his concentration waning and him becoming physically fatigued.”
