McAuley target improvement

West Brom veteran defender Gareth McAuley has no thought of retiring and insists he is eager to play on for as long as he possible can.

The Northern Ireland international is on the verge of turning 37 but he is not yet starting to think about calling it a day.

The defender netted last time out in the 1-1 draw with Hull and hopes he can continue to have a positive impact for the Baggies.

McAuley boasts four goals for the season, which sees him ranked as the club’s joint-top scorer, alongside Salomon Rondon and Nacer Chadli.

“They say 35 is the hard one but I’ve lost count now,” McAuley said.

“I’m enjoying my football and I want to play as long as I can. Hopefully I can play a standard that everyone’s happy with.

“The main thing is I’ve got the desire to do it and I want to do it. I want to improve at my age and I think that’s what is keeping me going.”
