Summer deals have galvanised Albion

Ben Foster says Tony Pulis has assembled the best West Brom squad for at least five years after an impressive summer recruitment drive.

The Baggies were busy in the summer transfer window, with six new arrivals in total, including Paris Saint-Germain loanee Grzegorz Krychowiak, Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs, forward Jay Rodriguez and veteran midfielder Gareth Barry.

Foster believes the Albion squad is now as strong as in recent times with real strength in depth and he says it can only be matched by the one Steve Clarke had at the Hawthorns five years ago.

The keeper said in the Express & Star: “There‚Äôs a lot more strength in depth than what we’ve been used to. Before the game on Saturday we lined up in two XIs, just doing a bit of team shape for the game. Either of the two XIs could take to the field on a matchday.

“It’s probably the first time it’s been like that since Steve Clarke was manager, when we had Romelu (Lukaku) in the team, and we got off to that amazing start. I think we were fourth just before Christmas. That’s the last time I can remember it being such a strong squad in terms of depth.”

West Brom have begun the campaign fairly well, beating Bournemouth and Burnley before drawing with Stoke and going down to a solitary defeat against Brighton, while they also progressed past Accrington in the Carabao Cup.
