Midfielder linked with Hammers switch
West Ham are being linked with a swoop for Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who will be allowed to leave in the January window.
The Hammers were one of the biggest spenders in the summer as new boss Manuel Pellegrini revamped the squad, but so far it has not had the desired effect as they have yet to pick up a point.
There is no opportunity to strengthen further until January, but that is not stopping suggestions that Drinkwater will be a target.
The midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge after signing for them in a £35million deal from Leicester and is currently well down the pecking order.
It came as something of a surprise that the 28-year-old failed to get himself fixed up with a new club in the summer as it was clear he was not in the plans of Maurizio Sarri.
Drinkwater’s route to the first team is completely blocked and West ham could offer him a fresh start by taking him on loan with a view to a permanent deal when the window opens.
Drinkwater’s former club Leicester City along with Southampton are also said to be interested in such a deal so the midfielder will have options when the window opens.
