Newport 0-2 West Ham
Jack Wilshere’s first West Ham goal helped the Premier League side to a 2-0 win at Newport County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
The Hammers eased their way into the game and produced their first real chance in the 16th minute with winger Robert Snodgrass cutting onto his favoured left foot just inside the area but his effort was well saved by Newport keeper Nick Townsend.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side did manage to take the lead just before the break when midfielder Wilshere was played through one-on-one before slotting the ball calmly into the bottom-right corner.
The Hammers doubled their lead on the 65th minute when Felipe Anderson saw his low cross find Pablo Fornals in the box, before the Spaniard fired home from close range.
There was to be no giant-killing comeback this time for Newport and it was the Hammers who safely progressed through to the Carabao Cup third round.
