Fredericks happy with Hammers’ start
West Ham United right-back Ryan Fredericks feels the club can be happy with the start they have made to the new Premier League season.
After a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of reigning champions Manchester City in their opening game, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have responded well.
A draw against Brighton on the south coast was following by a comfortable 3-1 win at Watford before collecting their first home points of the season with a 2-0 victory against Norwich City.
Add to that a 2-0 win at Newport County in the Carabao Cup and it has been a decent start to the season for the Hammers.
Fredericks, who has found himself to be a regular in Pellegrini’s starting line-up this term, feels there is plenty to build on going forward.
“It’s really positive and the lads are feeling positive,” he told the club’s official website. “We had a chance right at the end of the Brighton game to win that, too, which would have made for a near-perfect start for us.
“We always knew the first game against Manchester City was going to be a tough one, but we’ve played well and played well in spells in every game, even Man City.
“As the games have gone on, we’ve defended better and better and finally we got our first clean sheet against Norwich.”
The Hammers, who splashed the cash over the summer to significantly strengthen the squad, find themselves in seventh place in the Premier League table ahead of their next outing on Monday, September 16.
West Ham head to the West Midlands to face an Aston Villa side currently down in 18th place in the standings, with just three points from their first four games.
