Cresswell hails Hammers’ strength

West Ham United
Fifth-placed West Ham travelled to sixth-placed Bournemouth down at the Vitality Stadium and the parity of sides was demonstrated as they played out a 2-2 draw.

Aaron Cresswell says the current West Ham squad is the strongest he’s known it in the five years he’s been at the club.

Cresswell has been with the Hammers since summer 2014 and he’s enthused by the current squad boss Manuel Pellegrini has assembled compared to any other he’s played with over the past five years.

Results this season go some way to backing up the left-back’s opinion as West Ham have enjoyed good wins over Manchester United, Norwich and Watford so far and they sit eighth in the table with 12 points on the board from eight games.

Summer signings Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals have impressed at times, while Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko are among the others to catch the eye – along with Cresswell.

It’s not all been plain sailing, though, as Pellegrini’s side lost 5-0 at home on the opening weekend against champions Manchester City and were also beaten 2-1 at the London Stadium by Crystal Palace just before the international break.

Cresswell, who signed a new two-year contract extension earlier this week to tie him to the club until 2023, is confident of a good season overall and is delighted with the quality within the dressing room at the moment.

He told the club’s website: “Going back to the last year we had at the Boleyn, we had a good squad. But look at this squad, the depth, the players and the signings we are making.

“We’ve got two players for each position so if someone gets injured there is always someone to step up. Certainly, in the time I’ve been here, it’s been the best squad I’ve been involved in.”

Creswell joined the Hammers from Ipswich for just over £4million and has gone on to make 184 appearances in all competitions, including five this term, while he’s also scored against United and Bournemouth in recent weeks.
