Hart started his career at the Shrews and he made 54 appearances for them before being snapped up by Manchester City.
He made his England U19 international debut while playing for the League One outfit but he has since gone on to win the Premier League.
Although the 30-year-old is under pressure to keep his place in the Hammers first-team, Hart admits he cannot wait to return in January.
“It’s the first time I’ll have gone back to Shrewsbury for a competitive game, so I’m really looking forward to it,” Hart told the club’s official website.
“It’s a beautiful town and a nice place to live. We are kind of on the edge of everything in our own little world, but it’s a great place, full of proud people, and I have nothing but good things to say about Shrewsbury. It’s my home.”
