Noble fires back at critics

West Ham United

Mark Noble says the players held a crunch meeting recently which he feels has played a part in turning around West Ham's form.

The Hammers found themselves coming in for criticism after going on a team night out following a 3-0 defeat to Southampton last month, the low point in what has been a tough start to the season for Slaven Bilic and co.

Before the team bonding session, skipper Noble has revealed all the players and staff got together to discuss the team’s start to the campaign with some harsh truths being aired during the get together.

Since then West Ham have taken four points from the last two matches, including Saturday’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, and Noble believes the night out and clear the air talks have only boosted the players.

“It’s not nice to pick up your phone and read how bad we are,” said Noble. “People saying that we’re this and we’re that. I watched TV before the game and saw people saying how bad our defending was.

“That win was a little boost for us. Just to show we do care. We really, really care. The way we’ve trained, the way we are as players, it’s really important to us.

“When you look at it, by all accounts we’ve had a terrible start, our worst in how many years. But we’re only a point now behind Leicester, who won the league last season. Start winning a couple of games and it doesn’t look so bad after all.

‘We’ve had meetings as players, with the staff. We got hammered for going out on a night out, but since that night we’ve picked up four points, so is it a bad thing? I don’t know.”
