Wolves defensive duo leave on loan

Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolves have allowed youngsters Sylvain Deslandes, Will Randall and Ming-yang Yang to join Spanish club FC Jumilla on loan for the season.

Wolves defenders Sylvain Deslandes and Connor Johnson have joined Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Kilmarnock on respective loan deals.

Wolves confirmed the news on Wednesday that both players have been allowed to leave on season-long loans, with Deslandes’ switch to Bulgarian outfit Plovdiv also including an option for a permanent move at the end of the season.

Deslandes has struggled to make much of an impact in the Wolves’ first-team since joining from French side Caen in summer 2015, making just eight senior appearances, while he has had previous loan spells with Bury, Portsmouth and Jumilla.

He has not featured for Wolves since the third round of the League Cup two seasons ago and will hope to impress in the Bulgarian top flight before potentially sealing a full-time switch to Plovdiv.

Deslandes was way down boss Nuno Espirito Santo’s list of defensive options this season and was advised to try and find another loan move or permanent transfer over the summer.

Nuno has plenty of players to utilise at the back with Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett all starting against Everton in the 3-2 defeat last time out, while Matt Doherty, Jonny Castro and Jesus Vallejo, who recently joined on loan from Real Madrid, are among the other defenders in his first-team squad, although Doherty is currently sidelined with a minor injury.

Meanwhile, fellow defender Johnson has again been sent out on loan and joins up with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock for the rest of the campaign, having shone last season playing for Walsall in League One.

The 21-year-old has captained Wolves’ Under-23s but has yet to taste first-team action for the Black Country outfit.

He impressed in 11 appearances while on loan with the Saddlers last term, scoring once, and it is hoped he will gain much-needed experience and regular game time throughout the rest of the season in the Scottish top flight before returning to Molineux in the summer.

Wolves have thanked the pair for their efforts and added in a short statement: “Everyone at Wolves would like to wish Sylvain and Connor the very best during their time away from the club.”

The duo join a whole host of Wolves players out on loan for the 2019-20 season, with the likes of Helder Costa at Leeds United and Rafa Mir currently at Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

Wolves return to action after the current international break when they take on Chelsea on September 14 looking for their first Premier League win of the season after drawing three and losing one of their first four games.
