Mata dismisses Espanyol talk
Getafe forward Jaime Mata has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Espanyol before the close of the transfer window.
Mata was one of the star performers as the Madrid-based club claimed a surprise fifth-place finish in La Liga last season, with his 14 goals playing a major role in their qualification for the Europa League.
Indeed, the 30-year-old’s performances also earned him his first call-up for Spain at senior international level – with his debut coming against Norway in March – while he has continued in the same vein this season, as he grabbed an equaliser as Getafe drew 1-1 with Atletic Bilbao in La Liga on Saturday.

Speculation has been rife linking Mata with a move away from Coliseum Alfonso Perez over recent days, with Espanyol reportedly earmarking the former Real Valladolid star as a replacement for Borja Iglesias, who recently joined Real Betis.
However, Mata has now moved to dismiss that speculation by insisting he has no plans to leave Getafe this summer.
“I have nothing to say about [Espanyol’s interest],” Mata was quoted as saying by Marca. “I am focused here.
“I am only interested in helping us to win matches.”
