Escriba frustrated by lack of options
Celta Vigo boss Fran Escriba admits he remains short of options as he continues to build towards the new season.
The 54-year-old saved the Galicians from relegation last term, eventually finishing 17th in the table, and has been busy trying to improve the side, signing the likes of Denis Suarez and Joseph Aidoo.
While Santi Mina has returned after four years at Valencia, forward players look in short supply with next Saturday’s La Liga opener against Real Madrid looming.
Most notably, a replacement for Maxi Gomez has still to be signed and Escriba has had to rotate in pre-season in a bid to find solutions within his squad.
The coach is clearly frustrated and appears concerned by his lack of attacking options.
“In the back we are complete with three goalkeepers and eight defenders,” he said. “Problems arise in the other lines since.
“Okay, we do not have replacements of similar profile. That is why I have been conducting tests in friendlies. I have few players.”
