Haro rejects Setien return talk
Real Betis president Angel Haro insists the club are not thinking about re-appointing Quique Setien.
Rubi is the current incumbent at the Benito Villamarin after taking over in the summer following Setien’s departure.
The 61-year-old stepped away from the club after leading them to 10th in La Liga, four places and 10 points worse off than his first year in charge.
Setien’s exploits in Seville even saw him linked with Barcelona but the board decided he had taken the team as far as he could and let him go in May.
Rubi’s reign is yet to really ignite, with Los Beticos currently sitting 15th in La Liga, four points above the relegation places.
The board are believed to be concerned by the situation and recent reports have suggested a change could be in the offing following talks with the players.
Still out of work, Setien is the name that keeps coming up but Haro says the speculation is unfair and only harming the players.
“Everything that is said about a coach other than Rubi is bad for the team,” he told Marca. “You have to focus on our coach, who is Rubi, gain confidence and in that sense matches like the other day are good for this.
“We are not where we would want to be but I think the team has enough quality to be higher and we have to focus on supporting Rubi.”
Betis beat Valencia 2-1 last Saturday and Rubi will have another chance to prove himself when he takes his side to Mallorca at the weekend.
