Real planning swoop for Gnabry

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry this January.

Zinedine Zidane’s La Liga leaders spent heavily during the summer, with deals completed for the likes of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic from Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively.

Hazard signed from the London club for a fee in the region of 100million euros, as Los Blancos looked for a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for Juventus last summer.

Jovic, having shone in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt, was brought in to boost the frontline and provide competition for Karim Benzema.

Despite those signing being made, plus a plethora of others, they are still keen to look to the future and have identified Gnabry as a possible target.

The German international, formerly of Arsenal and West Brom, has been in sparkling form over the past year and is attracting the attention of several clubs.

He scored 11 in 27 for Werder Bremen in the 2016-17 season, which prompted a bargain 8million euros switch to the Allianz Arena, but he was immediately loaned out to Hoffenheim, where he bagged 10 in 26.

Then, on returning to Bayern last season, he netted 13 in 42 and has become a mainstay of the team, helping to replace the departed Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

This season has got off to a similarly fast start, and he scored four goals against Tottenham in their phenomenal 7-2 win in the Champions League.

Now, Real are understood to want to make the 24-year-old one of their priorities in upcoming transfer windows, with a fee of around £69million the mooted cost.

If the Spanish side cannot get a deal for him over the line, then they have options in reserve, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, and Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Haaland also attracting interest.
