Real success still the priority for Hakimi

Achraf Hakimi has dropped a hint he would like to get another crack at establishing himself with Real Madrid once his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund ends.

The Morocco international was the hero of BVB’s comeback win against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, netting twice as the German outfit came from two goals down to triumph 3-2.

It was the latest good performance in a successful stint with Dortmund, which started in the summer of 2018 when Real agreed to send him out on a two-year loan deal.

The 21-year-old made 28 appearances last season for Dortmund, a campaign cut short by injury, returning this term to great effect.

Achraf has made 15 appearances in all competitions in the current campaign, scoring six times and firmly establishing himself as a key cog in Lucien Farve’s first team.

While Achraf has spoken about his enjoyment of playing for Dortmund, crediting the club for making him a better player, he still appears focused on establishing himself with Real Madrid.

Having come through the youth system at the Spanish capital club, Achraf has indicated he’s keen to add to the 17 appearances he’s amassed so far in his Real career.

“Return to Madrid? Why not? Madrid is my home and I grew up there. I am in Borussia until the end of the season and then we’ll see,” Achraf told Cadena Ser.

Daniel Carvajal remains the first-choice right-back at Real Madrid and looks unlikely to lose his place any time soon.

However, Achraf’s adaptability, having also played at left-back and in midfield, could see him force his way into the team elsewhere when he does return from Germany.
