Vaclik stable at Sevilla

Goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik says he is happy to continue pushing himself to be the number one at Sevilla.

The Czech custodian joined Los Rojiblancos in 2018 and established himself between the sticks immediately, resulting in homegrown talent Sergio Rico being sent out on loan to Fulham.

Rico will spend this season at Paris Saint-Germain, while Juan Soriano has also joined Leganes for the campaign. Meanwhile, Bono has arrived on loan from Girona and youngster Javi Diaz is also set to provide competition.

Vaclik appears to be the number one though and is clearly enjoying life in Andalusia after previously playing in both his homeland and in Switzerland with Basel.

The 30-year-old says he is happy at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and is confident he can produce the performances required to maintain his position as first choice with the gloves.

“I think I have the confidence of the club,” Vaclik told Ceske Noviny. “If they wanted a new number one, they would sign him at the beginning of the market to stay with the team all the time and complete the preseason training.

“I feel safe, but now it’s about performance and not like I was last year. If I am able to do well every weekend, I will keep the job.”

He added: “Sevilla is a great club where you have to be prepared for everything. While there, there will always be competition.”
