Boss wants attractive football
Reading, Latest news update:
Reading boss Nigel Adkins insists he will try to mould the squad into a team that can play entertaining football next season.
Adkins took over at the Madejski Stadium on March 26 with the near impossible task of trying to keep the Royals in the top-flight.
The former Southampton manager failed to complete the great escape and relegation was confirmed after a goalless draw with QPR, but he has vowed to put his mark on the team when they aim to try and win immediate promotion back to the Premier League next term.
The 48-year-old is known for his passing style of football which helped take the Saints to the top table of English football.
Adkins said: "I will never talk negatively about previous regimes. Let's face it, they won the Championship the season before last which speaks for itself.
"It is different being in the Premier League because if you give the ball away cheaply, good teams won't let you have it back as we saw when we played Manchester City in our last home game.
"The emphasis now is on trying to keep good possession of the football as it gives you an opportunity to work your way through the team, get good penetration and score goals."
