Bennett names surprise England squad

England coach Wayne Bennett has named his squad for the forthcoming World Cup with some notable absentees from the party.

There is no place for Super League’s leading full-back Zak Hardaker following his failed drugs test, while Sam Tomkins has also failed to make the squad after an injury-hit season for Wigan and Jonny Lomax is set to reclaim the England number one jersey.

Wigan loose forward Sean O'Loughlin captains a squad featuring seven NRL-based players but there is no place for Super League’s top try-scorer Greg Eden, while Tigers skipper Michael Shenton and Hull’s Marc Sneyd also miss out.

Warrington Wolves, who finished outside the top eight, have four players in the squad to Castleford’s two, while Champions Leeds also just have two players in the squad.
