Winger staying with Giants

Jermaine McGillvary will be staying with Huddersfield Giants despite outside interest according to team-mate Michael Lawrence.

After an outstanding World Cup campaign there has been plenty of speculation suggesting the 29-year-old could be on his way out of Huddersfield to a more fashionable club.

Warrington were said to be keen whilst a host of clubs in the NRL have taken notice of his abilities and shown an interest in his services but according to Lawrence he is going nowhere.

He told the club’s official website: “I speak to him pretty much every day. Me, Jerry and Leroy (Cudjoe) have our own group chat and we chat to him very often.

“He’s contracted here for the next good few years and he’ll definitely be coming back. He loves Huddersfield so he’ll be back and fully focused on coming back and having a good year for us.

“He’ll come back a better player, after being in that environment with those players in a high class environment. With the experience he’s had playing over there, hopefully he can bring that back and pass it on."

Unsurprisingly McGillvary was named in the team of the tournament, but he has spent his entire career with the Giants and that looks set to continue.
