Exeter head coach Rob Baxter has issued his backing for prop Tomas Francis following his second red card in the last six months.
After kicking out at a ruck during Saturday's 36-25 victory over Harlequins, the Welsh front-rower was given his marching orders.
This is the not the first red card for Baxter this year, after he was given an eight-week suspension for making contact with the eye or eye area of Dan Cole during Wales' Six Nations defeat at the hands of rivals England.
Baxter has admitted his player was unlucky on Saturday but knows Baxter must address his discipline going forward.
He told BBC Devon: "It was a soft red card because players have been told that you can't flash feet into rucks now.
"Even if you genuinely think you can go for the ball, if you connect with someone's head you're liable for a sending off.
"Tom's been a bit unfortunate. There's no malice there, but the reality is that players have been told about it and it's a habit that they must get out of."
