Dembele denied top goal award

Celtic's Moussa Dembele has been ruled out of the running for the FIFA Puskas award - which recognises the best goal of the year.

The Hoops striker was nominated for the prestigious prize after putting the finishing touch to a superb team move when Celtic beat St Johnstone 5-2 at McDiarmid Park earlier this year.

Ten goals were originally shortlisted for the award, which is decided by a public vote, but FIFA confirmed on Monday that Dembele has failed to make the final three.

Olivier Giroud’s outrageous scorpion kick stunner for Arsenal, Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke’s fine effort and a goal scored by Deyna Castellanos of Venezuela Women will be put to the vote to decide the 2017 winner.
