Sassuolo reveal Berardi demand and push for De Zerbi deal

Serie A
Domenico Berardi has confirmed that he will look to leave Sassuolo in the summer 'if the right proposal arrives'.

Managing director Giovanni Carnevali says Sassuolo refused many offers for red-hot Dominico Berardi this year and coach Roberto De Zerbi wants to renew.

After five goals in three Serie A games this season, Berardi is back in focus in Italy amid renewed talk of a national team call-up from Roberto Mancini.

The 25-year-old scored a hat-trick against Sampdoria – now coached by his mentor Eusebio Di Francesco – and a brace against Roma – the club the same coach left Sassuolo to join.

But while coaches come and go and many of his team-mates are bought and sold, Berardi has never left Modena, where he lives happily with his long-term girlfriend.

That could change at the end of the season as the clamour for him in the Italian sports press has seen him described as Italy’s Arjen Robben.

The big clubs in Italy and abroad already know of him and will keep a watching brief but Sassuolo need not worry for the time being as he is safely under contract for another four years.

He has always been a goalscorer, notching 18 in Serie B back in 2012-13 and 16 and 15 in the following two campaigns after Sassuolo’s promotion.

Carnevali, when asked to talk about Berardi’s future, revealed Sassuolo have been fighting off interset in their star striker for years.

“He is a champion, we have always said so,” the managing director told Sportsmediaset. “He was requested by many clubs in the transfer market, but we did not want to sell him,. And he was happy to stay with us, giving reason to both of us, since he is doing extraordinary things.”

And on the future of De Zerbi, he added: “In a very short time we will talk about renewal. Until now we have had other priorities, but now we will face the issue related to the sporting part. If De Zerbi wants to renew, for us there will be no problems: in two minutes you can do it everything.”
