Roma make Sanchez loan enquiry

Manchester United are keen to get Alexis Sanchez out of the club.

Roma have reportedly held talks with Manchester United over signing Alexis Sanchez on a season-long loan deal.

The Chile international has endured a nightmare 18 months at Old Trafford since joining from Arsenal, scoring two goals in 27 appearances for the Red Devils last season.

Having struggled to settle in the north west, United have looked into getting the 30-year-old off the wage bill, but have found it tough to find him a new home, with few clubs willing to take on his £500,000-per-week pay package.

At his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Chelsea, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he expects Sanchez to stay in Manchester for the upcoming season once he returns to fitness following a hamstring injury.

However, the Telegraph are reporting Roma have made enquiries about taking the South American on loan.

The Italian transfer window doesn’t close until September 2, so the Giallorossi have plenty of time to work on a deal.

The Serie A side would need United to pay a chunk of Sanchez’s wages if he were to move to the Eternal City. They are understood to have proposed a 70:30 split, with the Premier League outfit paying the larger share.

Roma’s pursuit of Sanchez could rest on whether or not Edin Dzeko stays in the capital. The Bosnian striker has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan throughout the summer, but Roma have stood firm.

However, Roma’s reported interest in Sanchez and Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz could mean their stance is softening over selling their top goalscorer from last season.
