Zappacosta reveals Roma switch delight

Paulo Fonseca says he only wants fully committed players and hasn't yet spoken to Edin Dzeko since he took over at the Olimpico.

Davide Zappacosta says he jumped at the chance to join Roma and believes he will fit in well with the style of play under Paulo Fonseca.

After reports earlier this week, The right-back has signed on at the Stadio Olimpico from Chelsea and will stay until at least January after penning a short-term loan. There is a chance it could be extended for the rest of the season and he cannot wait to get started with his new club.

“When I got the call to say that I had the chance to come here I said yes straight away because it’s a massive opportunity,” he said. “I want to give all I have for this club, starting tomorrow.”

Giallorossi coach Fonseca likes his full-backs to bomb forward and attack and Zappacosta says that is something he will look to embrace.

“Yes, I think it will suit me well if we play with high full-backs but defending is still an important part of the role, especially in a back four,” he added. “It could be good for me, though, because I’m used to getting forward. It’s something that will allow me to show the best of my game.”

Zappacosta is in line to make his debut when Roma kick-off the season at home to Genoa on Sunday.
