Calhanoglu reportedly left the Milanello training ground early on Saturday due to a muscle problem and will not be considered for the weekend’s action.
Gattuso, who replaced Vincenzo Montella earlier this week, is said to be planning changes as he tries to resurrect Milan’s faltering season, with striker Fabio Borini set to return.
Borini, on loan from Sunderland, will feature after missing the 0-0 draw with Torino due to an ankle issue, but it is not known whether he will start on the bench.
La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Gattuso could pick six Italians in his first starting XI, choosing Riccardo Montolivo rather than summer signing Lucas Biglia.
Gattuso made 468 appearances as a player for the San Siro outfit and club officials will hope his star quality can shine through to his players.
