Aquilani hails Ribery impact
Former Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani has praised the impact made by new signing Franck Ribery.
The Frenchman decided to run his Bayern Munich contract down heading into the summer window and was therefore able to join his next club for free.
A number of teams were linked with his signature but Ribery eventually plumped for the Viola, signing a deal until the summer of 2021.
Having only arrived last month, the 36-year-old is still finding his feet but has shown glimpses of inspiration against Napoli and Genoa.
Both of those games have resulted in defeat though, leaving Fiorentina 16th in the table ahead of next Saturday’s visit of Juventus to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Despite the results, Ribery has still received praise for the way in which he has set about his task and is sure to have a positive impact on the squad.
After returning towards the end of last term, Vincenzo Montella has largely opted for youth in his squad but at 36, the former Marseille-man has the potential to mentor those who look up to him.
With nine Bundesligas and a Champions League on his CV, he also brings a winning mentality and Aquilani only sees his arrival as a positive for the club.
“He has given Fiorentina an incredible enthusiasm,” he told Sky Sport. “He has in his head the principles of a great champion that can be passed on to the youngest.
“Patience (is needed) to make him acclimatise, but I think that soon the results will come.”
