Inter boss Conte eases Serie A title talk

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is said to be lining up a swoop on Stamford Bridge, with defender Emerson Palmieri the target.

Antonio Conte has played down suggestions Inter Milan are the closest rivals to Juventus this season in the race for the Serie A title.

Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has made an impressive start to his tenure since taking charge at the San Siro, winning all three Serie A matches to sit top of the standings at this early stage of the season.

Victories over Lecce, Cagliari and Udinese have helped the Nerazzurri move two points clear of defending champions Juventus, who were held to a 0-0 draw at Fiorentina on Saturday afternoon.

Due to this fast start to the campaign, Inter are being seen as the main rivals to break the Old Lady’s dominance in Italy’s top flight and land their first league title since 2009-10.

However, former Chelsea boss Conte, who won the Premier League during his two-year spell at Stamford Bridge, has attempted to ease the pressure on his squad, saying his side are being built up for a fall.

“We are growing and I’m happy about our maturation,” he was quoted as saying by Goal. “But I also know that now you talk about us so you can beat us when something goes wrong.

“Today we talk about Inter as Juventus’ main rivals. I know the game and it is what it is. But we have to keep our feet on the ground. Let others talk, we must shut up and work.”

Inter return to action on Tuesday evening when they get their Champions League campaign up and running with a home clash against Slavia Prague.
