Skriniar hails Conte effect
Inter defender Milan Skriniar has hailed the work done by manager Antonio Conte and feels it has helped the team’s deadly duo up front.
Juventus are normally well clear in the Serie A standings by now but they have Inter for company this time around, with the Nerazzurri just one point adrift of the table-topping Old Lady after 13 games.
Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez, 22, has scored six Italian top-flight goals and 11 in all competitions this season while Romelu Lukaku has 10 in the league and another one in Europe.
They have developed a superb understanding in attack and Skriniar puts it down to the way Conte, in his first season at the San Siro after leaving Chelsea in summer 2018, has managed to mould the players into an effective unit.
“At the moment they are the best strikers around, not only for the goals they score but also for the amount of work they do for the team,” he told Sky Sports. “Conte’s work is giving us a winning mentality. It’s my third season here at the club and now we are more a team.”
Inter’s next test comes at home to SPAL on Sunday while Juve entertain Sassuolo in Turin, with Lazio currently third in the table.
The Rome outfit are on a roll at present having won their past five games and six from eight but it remains to be seen if they can maintain that over the course of the season and keep pace with the top two.
