Can “shocked” by Champions League omission
Juventus midfielder Emre Can admits he was surprised to find out he was not included in the Italian's Champions League squad this season.
The German midfielder has not been included in Maurizio Sarri’s squad for the group stages, meaning he will play no part in their Champions League campaign until at least the knockout stages if they get there.
Can made 37 appearances for the Old Lady last season but has struggled for game time so far this term and has seemingly slipped behind summer arrivals Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey, despite the latter having yet to make his debut due to injury.
The 25-year-old has admitted he would have sought a transfer had he known he was going to be snubbed from the Champions League squad.
“I’m not in the squad for the Champions League which really shocked me yesterday, because I was promised otherwise last week,” Can told Sky in Germany.
“Consequently I would not have stayed at Juventus, because it was the main condition for me to be part of the Champions League squad.
“I must play in the Champions League, I want to play in the Champions League. When I’m back, I’ll talk to the club and then we will see what happens.”
