Juve ace turns down Barca to fight for place

Juventus' Federico Bernardeschi is ready to fight for his place.

Federico Bernardeschi is reported to have turned down moves away from Juventus in order to battle for his place in Maurizio Sarri's line-up.

The winger faces a huge battle to force his way into the first team at the Allianz Stadium and reports claim he was the subject of interest from rival clubs before the European window closed on September 2.

One of those clubs was Barcelona, with sources suggesting he turned down a move to the Nou Camp in the closing hours of the transfer window.

The 25-year-old probably thought he had a better chance of forcing his way into the first team at Juve rather than Barca, and was not willing to up sticks and swap one bench for another.

Bernardeschi is hoping that the arrival of Maurizio Sarri as the club’s new coach will offer him fresh hope and he may be able to force his way into the plans of the Italian.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be budged unless he picks up an injury, so Bernardeschi will have set his sights on pushing ahead of Douglas Costa and Gonzalo Higuain in the pecking order.

Bernardeschi will now battle hard to impress Sarri over the coming months, but if things do not improve then there is a chance he could pursue a move away in the January transfer window.

The Italian forward will revisit the situation then and there will be no shortage of interest in the former Fiorentina star who has made 71 appearances for the Bianconeri.
