Higuain only had eyes for Juve

Gonzalo Higuain says his priority was always to remain a Juventus player despite the uncertainties that surrounded his future during the summer.

Former Argentina international Higuain had been expected to leave Juventus after spending last season on loan at both AC Milan and Chelsea, with Roma reportedly showing an interest in his services.

However, Higuain’s former manager at both Napoli and Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri, was confirmed as Juve’s new boss during the summer and he not only decided to keep hold of the 31-year-old, but he has started him in both of the Old Lady’s Serie A matches so far this season.

Higuain’s future, in the short term at least, certainly appears to be at the Juventus Stadium and he insists it was always his priority to remain in Turin.

“As soon as I returned to Turin, I had clear ideas. I wanted to stay at Juventus,” the forward told Sky Sport Italia. “Honestly, no-one told me anything when I returned. I came back to work here, to try to show my worth.

“They’re a great team, with a big fan base. They’re a great club, so I’m happy to be here.”
