Matuidi set for fresh Juventus terms

Blaise Matuidi

Italian giants Juventus are reportedly set to reward midfielder Blaise Matuidi with an improved contract.

Matuidi cost Juventus a fee in the region of 20million euros in the summer of 2017 after a six-year stint in his homeland with Paris Saint-Germain.

He has been a regular starter for the Turin-based outfit over the past two seasons although the arrival of Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey threatened to see him depart this summer.

The Troyes academy graduate has made 90 appearances across all competitions for Juve, scoring seven goals, but it’s his ability to breakdown play that makes him a highly valuable asset.

Reports claimed Matuidi hadn’t been given assurances over his playing time and he was subsequently linked with a return to PSG.

However, Maurizio Sarri is a big admirer of the World Cup winner and feels his experience is key to ensuring they can compete on multiple fronts this season.

The 32-year-old has started both of their Serie A outings this term, with Ramsey yet to feature due to fitness issues.

Matuidi’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2020 and reports in Italy claim he will be tied down to fresh terms beyond that date.

The midfielder certainly wouldn’t be short on options if he were to move away from Juventus although that now looks extremely unlikely.

Sarri has assembled a competitive squad at the Allianz Stadium in the hope of mounting a serious challenge in the Champions League.
