De Ligt enjoying Juve progress

Matthijs de Ligt believes he is starting to settle into life at Juventus after struggling early on.

Dutch international De Ligt was highly sought after during the summer, with Juve eventually winning the race for the centre-back’s signature by paying Ajax a reported €75million.

Expectations were high that the 20-year-old would hit the ground running in Turin, but some of his initial performances drew criticism, as he made several high-profile mistakes that led to the Serie A champions conceding goals.

However, De Ligt’s form appears to have improved over recent weeks, with his winning goal in the Turin derby against Torino at the start of the month being followed by another strong display as the Old Lady battled to a 1-0 home success over AC Milan last time out.

The youngster has certainly been encouraged by some of his recent performances and feels he is proving any criticism he may have received wrong.

“[The criticism] was only for a moment,” de Ligt, who is currently away with Holland for the international break, told NOS Voetbal. “I had a very good game against Milan and scored the winner against Torino in the derby. It was a beautiful moment. I am happy.”

The defender has featured 12 times across all competitions for Juventus so far this season, forming a strong partnership with the experienced Leonardo Bonucci in the continued absence of captain Giorgio Chiellini, who is working his way back from a long-term knee problem.
