Napoli retain hope of Hamsik stay

Napoli hope Marek Hamsik can be convinced to stick with the club following the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as manager.

The Slovak suggested earlier this week he could leave this summer despite having two years left on his deal as he revealed he would ‘like to try something new’.

A big-money move to Shandong Luneng has been suggested, but Italian reports say the Chinese club are yet to make a serious offer.

The 30-year-old is now expected to hold further talks with Napoli in the coming days and may have a change of heart if he can be convinced of the club’s ambition.

The departure of Maurizio Sarri was considered one of the key factors in Hamsik’s apparent decision to seek a fresh challenge.

Ancelotti’s appointment may well have eased those concerns, and if the Serie A side show they are ready to be bold in the transfer window ahead of another Scudetto challenge the forward could be convinced to remain at the Stadio San Paolo.
